Advanced Training


Weatherization Crew Leader: This intense two-day course provides training in work order preparation, crew supervision, job planning and execution, materials selection and ordering, and processing paperwork. It includes a job planning exercise and a visit to the job site.


Weatherization Inspector: Certified Inspectors perform post-weatherization quality assurance inspections. Inspector training consists of one day in the classroom discussing aspects of quality control, quality assurance and quality supervision, in addition to discussing how to conduct inspections. Other modules cover Oregon State weatherization standards and specifications, verifying proper execution of the work order, and how to inspect for completion and quality.

Energy Educator: Participants will obtain a basic understanding of physics, thermal flow, and energy, and how to apply them in a residential environment. Students will take a written exam in class and must pass with a 75% or better. Upon completion of the training, educators and other participants will be able to: 1) Demonstrate an understanding of basic Energy Education concepts; 2) Understand OHCS expectations for the Energy Education program; 3) Gain insight from current educators’ experiences related to curriculum development; 4) Apply theory and practices to help establish local programs.


REM/DesignTM: This one-day introductory class trains the Energy Analyst how to use the Residential Energy Analysis and Rating Software REM/Design. The trainee will learn how to enter and calculate cooling, heating, hot water, lighting and appliance energy loads, and consumption and costs for single-family homes.


Lead Safety for Renovation, Repair and Painting and Lead Safe Worker: This class is for all weatherization workers removing or modifying painted surfaces.


Mold and Moisture Management: This class covers typical types of mold found in homes, conditions that lead to mold growth, proper documentation of mold and moisture issues in homes, and methods of cleaning or remediating mold. The student will use infrared cameras and moisture meters to identify mold within walls.
