Introduction to REM/Design – online

Course Description:

This one-day, online class introduces the participant to the use of the Residential Energy Analysis and Rating Software REM/Design™. The trainee will learn how to enter and calculate cooling, heating, hot water, lighting and appliance energy loads, and consumption and costs for single-family homes.

  • An internet connection – broadband wired or wireless- with a minimum bandwidth of 1.0Mbps/600kbps (up/down)
  • Speakers and a microphone
  • Webcam or HD webcam

Please have the current version of REM/Design™ (per OHCS Wx Memo) installed, operational, and ready to use during the class.

  • It is recommended, though not required, to have a second monitor installed, operational, and ready to use during the class.

Course Description:

REA Installer Stick Built Course

Weatherization Installer - Stick Built Home (Shell Tech)

This course focuses on demonstration and hands-on application with twelve hours in the classroom and eight hours of hands-on lab and installation of stick-built home measures. Students get their hands dirty installing attic, wall and floor insulation, replacing windows and doors, and sealing ducts.

Students will be given a written exam on the last day and must pass with a score of 75 percent or better.  Students will also need to pass 100 percent of basic field installation requirements while demonstrating competency in all areas under the supervision of a field exam proctor.

REA Installer Manufactured Home Course

Weatherization Installer - Mobile Home (Shell Tech Mobile Home)

Recommended prerequisite: Stick Built Home Weatherization Installer.

 This course focuses on demonstration and hands-on application with twelve hours in the classroom and eight hours of hands-on lab installations. Students get their hands dirty installing attic, wall and floor insulation, replacing windows and doors, and sealing ducts on manufactured (mobile) homes.

Students will be given a written exam on the last day and must pass with a score of 75 percent or better.  Students will also need to pass 100 percent of basic field installation requirements while demonstrating competency in all areas under the supervision of a field exam proctor.

REA Energy Analyst course - Salem OR - July 25-29

Recommended Prerequisite: We highly recommend that the trainee complete the REA Installer Stick Built and REA Installer Manufactured Home prior to taking this course.

This course is designed for the comprehensive evaluation and documentation of a performance-based energy audit specifically of the building shell, assessment of the efficiency and safety of the mechanical systems, and to establish the most cost-effective weatherization strategy using skills learned in the course. These include principles of energy, energy and the building shell, energy auditing, air leakage and the dynamics of pressure differentials, insulation types, windows and doors, heating and cooling systems, indoor air quality, lighting and appliances, water heating, and health and safety.

This course provides fundamental concepts related to building science principals, air leakage testing, and performance-based energy auditing. It also provides hands-on training in the lab with state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, including the blower door, and duct blaster. It also includes overviews of the Site-built Housing and Mobile Home Specifications.

This is an intensive, four-day training course. An open-book exam is given with a 75% or better as a passing grade to receive state certification as well as a field skills demonstration.
